This entry is one of a series related to the 'Signal|Process' & 'Locative Media' Workshops that took place in Central Railway Station (Rautatieasema) in Helsinki, Finland, in late March 2004.
The Signal|Process Workshop about sound and public space was organised by Sophea Lerner, then Sonic Arts & Media lecturer at Sibelius Academy, using this institutional support and inkind resources from MUU mediabase and gallery.
Meanwhile the Locative Media Workshop, exploring location-based media and actions, with strong public performative, interventionist and temporal perspectives, was organised by Andrew Gryf Paterson, and funded by an EU Culture 2000 grant awarded to RIXC Centre for New Media Culture, as part of their 'Trans-Cultural Mapping' workshop series in 2004 with other partners. It also benefited from inkind support and venue in the case of MUU.
What is particular about this hybrid combination of workshops and agendas was that they shared the same venue of engagement -- Helsinki Central Railway Station -- and overlapped in the workshop host venue, the Festival context of presentation and promotion -- Pixelache Helsinki 2004 Festival -- as well as the mingling or overlap of workshop participants additionally.
This particular entry in the archive shares the 'Fragments' PDF, a partial transcription of presentations recorded onto DV tape, that took place on Saturday 3rd April, at MUU mediaspace & gallery, the public end to both workshop processes advertised within Pixelache Festival programme. The transcription exists as an illustrated & highlightedtextual document, which formed the basis for other artefactual and poetic narratives of the events that took place in the workshops. It was also presented by Lerner and Paterson at RIXC's Trans-Cultural Mapping themed Festival in Riga in September 2004.
